May 2022 – Retired NJ Superior Court Judge Robert B. Reed Now of Counsel at Kearns Rotolo Law

Retired NJ Superior Court Judge Robert B. Reed

Kearns Rotolo Law partners Anthony P. Kearns and Victor A. Rotolo announced that retired New Jersey Superior Court Judge Robert B. Reed is now of counsel at the Firm. In this capacity, Judge Reed will serve as Mediator/Arbitrator, Special Discovery Master and consultant to the Firm’s associates and clients.

Judge Reed’s role as mediator/arbitrator at KRL will be especially beneficial to those clients seeking to resolve their legal disputes without traditional litigation. Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) procedures are used for resolving a variety of legal issues including divorce, personal injury claims and contract disputes. The two most common forms of ADR are:

  • Arbitration – an informal hearing before a panel of one to three arbitrators that decides the terms and conditions of a resolution; resolutions can be accepted or rejected by the parties involved, and
  • Mediation – a process in which a neutral party (i.e., the mediator) facilitates discussion and resolution of legal disputes. While mediation discussions are confidential and non-binding, once a resolution is achieved, the parties involved sign an agreement making it a binding contract.

“We are happy to welcome Judge Reed to our Firm and look forward to working with him,” said Mr. Kearns.

“Judge Reed’s proficiency in legal matters, particularly those relating to Family and Criminal Law, is a great asset to our Firm,” added Mr. Rotolo.

Judge Reed served on the Superior Court of New Jersey for 14 years, rotating between the Court’s Civil, Probate, Chancery, Family, and Criminal Divisions before retiring on July 30, 2018. He was subsequently recalled to judicial service by Order of the Chief Justice, serving almost exclusively in the Court’s Family Division until September 2021. Prior to that, Judge Reed was a practicing attorney for 31 years trying cases before both state and federal courts.
